We're delighted to announce that San Margo has been recognised with the Climate Leadership Award at the 2026 Clean + Conscious Sustainability + Social Impact Awards, celebrating our commitment to creating high-performance beauty products with a lighter environmental footprint.
From day one, our philosophy has been simple: for your inside, for your outside, for the outside.
We wanted to create a brand that lived our values and tried not to take more than we need. Sustainability is woven into how we create, source, package and give back. It isn’t cheap, and it isn’t always easy, but we think it is important.
Since we believed that great skincare, haircare and wellness shouldn't come at the expense of the planet.
As a proudly New Zealand-made, independently owned brand, sustainability is woven into the way we operate.
Our commitments include:
- Giving back: As a member of 1% for the Planet, we donate 1% of annual sales to environmental causes.
- Thoughtful packaging: Our packaging incorporates materials including sugarcane-based plastic, recycled glass and FSC-certified paper. Our packaging carries certified recycling labels with clear, component-specific disposal instructions, helping customers recycle correctly. Currently, 71% of our packaging components are kerbside recyclable.
- Carbon capture: Our family operates a 50-acre carbon farmlette in New Zealand, planted with more than 1,000 poplar trees to capture carbon as they grow.
- Conscious formulation: We carefully select high-performance ingredients and work with suppliers who share our commitment to responsible practices.
We realise it is impossible to be without impact. But this recognition means so much because it celebrates the intention behind every decision we make.
